Palm oil

Palm oil Palm oil is a type of edible vegetable oil that is derived from the palm fruit, grown on the African oil palm tree. Oil palms are originally from Western Africa, but can flourish wherever heat and rainfall are abundant. Today, palm oil is grown throughout Africa, Asia, North America, and South America, with 85% of all palm oil globally produced and exported from Indonesia and Malaysia; but most of the time not using sustainable measures. The industry is linked to major issues such as deforestation, habitat degradation, climate change, animal cruelty and indigenous rights abuses in the countries where it is produced, as the land and forests must be cleared for the development of the oil palm plantations. According to the World Wildlife Fund, an area the equivalent size of 300 football fields of rainforest is cleared each hour to make way for palm oil production. This large-scale deforestation is pushing many species to

THE CAPITALIST NIGER

THE CAPITALIST NIGER Chika Onyeani ………………………Every African must internalise this book - period….DAA INTRODUCTION In October 1960, Nigeria received its independence from Britain. By then, Ghana the former Gold Coast had been independent for three years under the great Osagyefo Kwame Nkumah. It was a time for celebrating Africa’s coming of age, as more and more African countries received their independence either from Britain or France. It was especially a poignant time for Africa, as then British Prime Minister Harold McMillan articulated his now famous “winds of change” sweeping Africa. We had high hopes for Africa, for the Black race, that the insidious imposition of foreign rule on us, the looting of Africa’s natural resources by our colonial masters accorded us would be things of history. That is more than forty years ago. Unfortunately, the promise of independence has not been fulfilled. Today, Africa has become more desolate; there is more starvation

ENVIRONMENTAL PROBLEMS

down a sink, the toxic pollutants have more of a chance to enter the environment and do harm. Besides, as plastic is less expensive, it is one of the most widely available and overused item in the world today. When disposed, it does not decompose easily (if ever), and pollutes the land or air nearby when burned in the open air. Even recycling doesn’t cut down on plastic, as it essentially uses the existing plastic, albeit in a new form. What are the solutions to plastic pollution? 1. Shop friendly - plastic bags were once a modern convenience but can be efficiently replaced by reusable cloth bags. Also, try to avoid bringing plastic bags at home and purchasing items with too much of packaging. Use metal or glass reusable bottles. 2. Get rid of bottled water - many companies now sell reusable water bottles as a substitute. 3. Forget plastic food containers and replace them by reusable containers. Bring your to-go mug with you to the coffee shop 6

Education

Education Education is so multifaceted that it is difficult for me to know where to begin discussing it, or how to prioritize the many factors. Relaying my own experience is easy: I had a standard classroom approach, supplemented by inordinate reading. In only the briefest and least memorable instances did I receive any individual tutoring. Education is commonly thought of as the job of schools. Adults cry "educate our children!" Everyone has opinions about the best way to do the job. It is of urgent importance, and all the numerous factors are much studied, debated, and new (or old) ideas continually tested or retested. Some people say "it's as simple as . . . " and then name their pet peeve or passion. My view is not of an education specialist, but of one who loves sharing what I learn, and owes much to educators. Since I don't have an educational theory neatly worked-out, nor an outline of my perceptions, my intent is to address each educational ingredient that comes to my m

"Career and Employment" Homereading

How life became a bed of roses The 10 most popular second careers Four years ago Clare Stokes, 34, worked as a pharmacist. Today, she's a florist "I used to be a full-time pharmacist and ran pharmacies for Boots. I enjoyed it but realised I needed something to help me switch off from the day-to-day stresses of the job. So I studied floristry at night school and after three years, I qualified as a florist. It so happened that a florist shop came up for sale in my area and I couldn't resist the idea of running it. So I bought it, took on the existing staff and I haven't looked back. I think a lot of people are creative. Once they find an outlet for it, they find they want to do it all the time. But it's not just the creative side of my new career that I love. I also enjoy the contact with people and the business side. Some days I don't make as much money as others, but generally it's going well

Cialdini raamat

More praise for Influence: Science and Practice! "We've known for years that people buy based on emotions and justify their buying decision based on logic. Dr. Cialdini was able, in a lucid and cogent manner, to tell us why this happens." --MARK BLACKBURN, Sr. Vice President, Director of Insurance Operations, State Auto Insurance Companies "Dr. Cialdini's ability to relate his material directly to the specifics of what we do with our customers and how we do it, enabled us to make significant changes. His work has enabled us to gain significant competitive differentiation and advantage" -LAURENCE HOF, Vice President, Relationship Consulting, Advanta Corporation "This will help executives make better decisions and use their influence wisely ... Robert Cialdini has had a greater impact on my thinking on this topic than any other scientist." -CHARLES T. MUNGER, Vice Chairman, Berkshire Hathaway, Inc.
