The Queen/Kuninganna essee filmist

The Queen was about Queen Elizabeth II reaction to the death of Princess Diana. Film was based on actual events and included a lot of tragedy, emotions and sadness. Just as Tony Blair was moving into 10 Downing Street, Princess Diana died in a Paris car wreck. England went into traumatized mourning deeper than anyone could have predicted. On the contrary, the royal family -- Diana's estranged former inlaws -- offered no public reaction at all. As resentment toward the royal cold shoulder built into a monarchical crisis of public opinion, young Mr. Blair intervened with the Queen until finally the House of Windsor made a public demonstration of something like humanity. The film showed me the life of the royal family. There aren't very much positive things about this film, because it showed the downside of the family. I only liked Tony Blair and Prince Charles....

In connection with this, Russia's first census was organized in the same year. In 1783, the Russian guberniya system spread to the Estonian territories. It was called the `regency' and signified a policy compromise by enlightened absolutism towards the Baltic German nobility. Catherine II partly curbed the nobility's class privileges: the peerage roll lost its former significance, and the Councils of Diet were abolished. The Statthalterschaft extended townspeople's rights also to non-Germans, allowing urban Estonians to get a foot on the social ladder and limited participation in politics. 7|Page 18501918 The national awakening The development of Estonia in the second half of the 19th century is characterized by general...

Famous castles of Scotland

Its maintenance is the responsibility of Historic Scotland.Crookston Castle sits atop a natural hill.To the north is a steep drop to the Levern Water. The castle has a rectangular main block, which was strengthened by a tower at each corner. This formed an irregular 'X-plan' shape, an unusual layout also seen at Hermitage Castle. Only the north-east corner tower survives to its former height, as well as the basement of the south-east tower. The two western towers were destroyed in the 15th century and never rebuilt, repairs in the 19th century have obscured even the remains of these. The main body of the castle measures about 19m by 12m, with walls up to 3.7m thick, and the north-east tower is around 6m square. The entrance is on the north side, adjacent to the north-east tower, and defended by a portcullis and two doors...

Tallinn

Though hard times continued, the period that followed is known as the "good old Swedish era": foundations were laid for the Estonian school system, the privileges of the nobility were curtailed, local peasants were granted the right to own property, and so on. Peter the Great wanted to open a window onto Europe for Russia so he started the Northern War in 1700. Estonia remained under Russian rule and the Baltic-German nobility vowed allegiance to the Tsar; the barons were restored their former privileges. In 1870 a railway line was opened from St. Petersburg to Tallinn. Tallinn grew into a major port and an industrial centre. Estonians became conscious of their national identity. Tartu was the centre of the movement of national awakening. On 24 February 1918, Estonia was proclaimed an independent democratic republic. Tallinn developed into a modern European capital. A period of prosperity followed, but independence only lasted for 20 years....

Education

Relaying my own experience is easy: I had a standard classroom approach, supplemented by inordinate reading. In only the briefest and least memorable instances did I receive any individual tutoring. Education is commonly thought of as the job of schools. Adults cry "educate our children!" Everyone has opinions about the best way to do the job. It is of urgent importance, and all the numerous factors are much studied, debated, and new (or old) ideas continually tested or retested. Some people say "it's as simple as . . . " and then name their pet peeve or passion. My view is not of an education specialist, but of one who loves sharing what I learn, and owes much to educators. Since I don't have an educational theory neatly worked-out, nor an outline of my perceptions, my intent is to addr...

Islam

The majority accepted the legitimacy of the three rulers prior to Ali, and became known as Sunnis. A minority disagreed, and believed that Ali was the only rightful successor; they became known as the Shi'a. After Mu'awiyah's death in 680, conflict over succession broke out again in a civil war known as the "Second Fitna". Afterward, the Umayyad dynasty prevailed for seventy years, and was able to conquer the Maghrib and AlAndalus (the Iberian Peninsula, former Visigothic Hispania) and the Narbonnese Gaul} in the west as well as expand Muslim territory into Sindh and the fringes of Central Asia. While the MuslimArab elite engaged in conquest, some devout Muslims began to question the piety of indulgence in a worldly life, emphasizing rather poverty, humility and avoidance of sin based on renunciation of bodily desires. Devout Muslim ascetic exemplars such as Hasan alBasri would inspire a movement that would evolve into Sufism....

Fabio Capello

Critics of Capello suggest that his high-mindedness is the flip- side of his unsentimental approach to his professional life. He spent five years as manager of Roma, steering the club to the Italian league title while engaged in frequent clashes with the management of its Turin-based rivals, Juventus. It was to general astonishment, therefore, that Capello walked out on Roma overnight in 2004 - to join Juventus. In response, Roma fans issued a sort of footballing fatwa against their former manager and hero, meaning that, for several years, he could only return to the Italian capital to visit his dentist while accompanied by bodyguards. Perhaps unsurprisingly, Capello put his ability to weather such crises down to his faith. A devout Catholic, his liking for strong doctrine was revealed earlier this year when he disclosed his support of the conservative Pope Benedict XVI and his opposition to Italy's laws allowing abortion....

Inglismaa

The United Kingdom is bordered by the Atlantic Ocean in the west, the North Sea in the east, the Norwegian Sea in the north, and the English Channel, also known as La Manche, in the south and it also separates the country from the continent of Europe. The neighbours of the United Kingdom are Iceland in the north-west, Norway in the east and France in the south. Britain also has many dependant territories which are scattered throughout the world and are the remains of the huge former British Empire. Today Britain assists them, but they may become independent whenever they wish. There have been some difficulties with some of the territories. Argentina has made claims to the Falkland Islands and Spain to Gibraltar. History When the glaciers retreated from Britain about 10,000 years ago, Stone-Age men started to inhabit the isles. The early Britons came across the land bridge which joined Britain to the continent. They were cave-dwellers at first...

The bodyshop

We believe that domestic violence is strongly related to self-esteem. Domestic violence undermines a woman's self esteem, making it very difficult for her to take a stand against abusers or leave an abusive relationship. In many ways our `Stop Violence in the Home' campaign is an evolution of our former campaigns. Throughout the world, domestic violence is often hidden from society and treated as a taboo. As a global retailer with a presence in thousands of cities and towns across the world and a high percentage of female customers and employees, we have the opportunity to reach millions of people and encourage them to speak out and act against domestic violence. Although many campaigns against domestic violence rely solely on shocking facts,...

Guyana

When the first Europeans arrived in the area around 1500, Guyana was inhabited by the Arawak and Carib tribes of American Indians. Although Guyana was first sighted by Christopher Columbus during his third voyage in 1498. In 1831 the three separate colonies became a single British colony known as British Guiana. Escaped slaves formed their own settlements known as Maroon communities, but with the abolition of slavery in 1834 many of the former slaves began to settle in urban areas. During the Second World War, the United States arranged for its airforce to use British airports in South America, including those in British Guiana. Guyana achieved independence from the United Kingdom in 1966 and became a republic on 23 February 1970. The main economic activities in Guyana are agriculture, bauxite mining, gold mining, timber, shrimp fishing and minerals. The sugar industry, which accounts for 28% of all export earnings,...
