PHYSICAL EDUCATION

PHYSICAL EDUCATION Physical education has long been a staple in schools on a K-12 level and beyond, with all students required to participate in some form of physical education. Also referred to as "gym class" students participated in activities such as team sports, (volleyball, soccer, basketball, etc.) walking or running (running a mile was common), cardiovascular and strength training exercises (such as pull-ups and push-ups) and even swimming. Physical education provides children with an opportunity to exercise during the day. It gives children early exposure to team sports, and promotes good physical fitness

EDUCATING THE STUDENT BODY

Name: EDUCATING THE STUDENT BODY Harold W. Kohl, III and Heather D. Cook. Being physically active every day is important for the healthy growth and development of preschoolers. Childhood mobility has an impact on physical development, the development of risk factors for several chronic diseases and the future quality of life. Based on today's knowledge, physical activity is essential for young people to achieve optimal growth and physical development, to prevent some health problems, as well as to social and mental development. Children who are inactive and who spend too much time in front of a screen watching television, playing computer video games or talking or typing on their phones have an increased risk of heart disease, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, obesity and diabetes.

Body Shaming

else’s body-shaming comments. Body-shaming manifests in many ways: Like Criticizing your own appearance, through a judgment or comparison to another person, Criticizing another’s appearance in front of them or Criticizing another’s appearance without their knowledge. No matter how this manifests, it often leads to comparison and shame, and perpetuates the idea that people should be judged mainly for their physical features. This leads to the question: if it has such harsh consequences, why is body-shaming so common? An example IOP (the Braintree Adolescent Intensive Outpatient Program) often discuss about dealing with conflicts with peers. Why, when we are upset, annoyed, or intimidated by someone, do we default to criticizing their appearance? Insults can be a go-to defense in these situations, particularly during adolescence and the young-adult years. In some ways, it feels easier to shoot for

Kiusamine

Her death is an example of bullying taken to its ultimate expression. But even in its mildest everyday forms, bullying is about one thing: the strong taking unfair advantage of the weak. Bullying has been defined as "the tendency for some children to frequently oppress, harass or intimidate other children, verbally, physically or both, in and out of school." It is not the minor behaviour problems that are a part of growing up, such as horseplay, occasional good-natured teasing or even the odd physical scrap between children of equal strength. The most common form is name-calling. Children call others names for many reasons: because the other child is short or fat, is of a different skin colour, or has a lisp, a stutter or a physical disability. Maybe he is a slow learner or wears clothes that differ from the run of the mill. Victims are often smaller or weaker than average, or shy and insecure. Boys bully more than girls, and the tormenting is more often physical. Debra J. Pepler of the

People whould have the rights to design their own babies

People should have the right to design their own babies. Have you ever caught yourself thinking about what if you had the power to design your own baby? Most likely everyone has. It is every parent's hope that their child will turn out to be a perfect human being without any physical or mental disabilities. But is it moral? First of all, if parents could design their own baby everyone would be perfect. What is more there would not be any babies born with illnesses or disabilities, both mental and physical. This is good news both to parents and children because living together with a handicap or being one is a very hard and sad thing. Another major point is, how far would people go designing their babies. One thing is

Any form of physical activity helps to burn calories stored in the body from the food we eat. In order to lose weight, we need to burn calories. However, exercise not only helps us lose weight, but maintain our weight as we grow older. As we age, our metabolism decreases, and so we need extra physical activity just to maintain our weight. This is why most people put on weight as they age, even when they stick to the same diet that they have always had.

physical activities then before and food that has high sugar and fat content is easily accessible for them. Thanks to modern day society it does not seem like the rates are going down themselves any time soon. What could government and/or parents do to make youngsters lifestyle healthier? One approach that parents should consider is to influence their children to part-take in a heathy lifestyle. It is probably true to say that kids who are used to eating junk food and low physical activity are more likely to become overweight sooner or later. By changing living habits and stepping up as good role models parents should adapt food that is beneficial and doing sports into normal everyday life. If this is what kids are used to doing in a young age the more likely they will use the same technique when raising their own children in the future. An alternative approach that is definitely not less important- providing schoolkids many

Water Purification

When treatment by microrganisms is not an option we often use different treatment techniques, called physical/ chemical treatment techniques. Chemical treatment often deals with the addition of certain chemicals, in order to make sure that the contaminants change structure and can then be removed more easily. Removal of contaminants can also be done through more difficult specific chemical processes. It takes a lot of education to fully understand these purification steps. Physical treatment usually deals with purification steps such as filtration. Water purification methods City water is purified water that was initially raw water taken at an intake station from a river and then sent to a water purification plant, where it became purified to meet water quality standards. A water purification plant can thus be thought of as a facility that treats raw water and removes its impurities, making the water safe

Nowadays video gaming addiction is fairly common occurence, when kids don't think about anything but playing games on the computer and sacrificing hours upon hours of studying and socializing to play "a few more" rounds. Another bad thing is teen obesity. It's confirmed that the risk being overweight is increased for every hour spent behind the computer. This is caused by lack of physical activity, because people are spending their free time at home, killing terrorists and racing in video game instead of going out and playing football with their friends. People who play computer games for several hours every day frequently have lack of social interaction with people. They don't go outside and socialize with other people, because they need to gain more levels in a game to impress their internet buddies.

and so forth. Mainly it is used because of its high durability and availability, but also because it is cheaper than to use wood for example. Concrete is used more than any other man-made material in the world.(slide) Moving on, the durability of concrete can be defined as the ability to remain serviceable for at least the required lifetime of the structure of which it forms apart. However there are many factors which shorten the lifetime of concrete (slide) such as: physical attacks, including frost damage, fire, wind and water waves and chemical attacks including sulfates, sea water, acids, alkali-silica reactions and of course corrosion of embedded steel. That's why the durability of concrete needs to be tested. (slide) Firstly, the concrete contains pores and capillaries which fulfill with water. In laboratories several test have been worked out to measure the permeability but in real life we have a similar situations in marine areas.

Linguistics lexicon handout

A people unfamiliar with, say, horses is unlikely to have a word for `horse'; similarly with ploughs, printing presses, and internet porn sites. For the most part this is trivial it's hard to imagine how it could be otherwise, given the general nature of human language. People tend to make a great deal of the alleged fact (see Pullum 1989) that "the Eskimos have lots of words for snow", but it doesn't take much thought to realise that any language spoken in a given physical and cultural environment is likely to have efficient ways of referring to distinctions that are important in that environment. That doesn't mean that you can read very much into individual words and individual facts about the lexicon of a given language (this topic has already come up in connection with debates about the location of the Indo-European homeland), but as a generalisation about lexicons, it's certainly valid.

been removed or covered by artificial turf. The enclosed playing area is called a box, in contrast to the open playing field of the traditional game. This version of the game was introduced in the 1930s to promote business for hockey arenas, and within several years had nearly supplanted field lacrosse in Canada. Women's lacrosse The rules of women's lacrosse differ significantly from men's lacrosse, most notably by equipment and the degree of allowable physical contact. Women's lacrosse does not promote physical contact primarily because the only protective equipment worn for this sport is a mouth guard and face guard and sometimes thin gloves. Stick checking (if the head of the stick is below the shoulder only), and not body checking as in men's lacrosse, is permitted in women's lacrosse. Although sometimes checking can lead to body checking. Video about Lacrosse http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TX3c5zV8GdM http://www
