The Most Influential Figures in British History

The Most Influential Figures in British History There are many important historical figures, who have helped shape Britain into what it is today. In my opinion Elizabeth I, Queen Victoria and Winston Churchill are the ones who stand out and have had the biggest impact on British history. Firstly, Elizabeth I made a great impression on British history as she kept England from major wars during her reign, the kingdom expanded and she supported culture. The rule of Elizabeth I can be called a peaceful time as England did not enter any huge conflicts. She

Locke essay

ACCESS ASSESSMENT COVER SHEET Student Name: Alex Callaghan EC1305063 Course: Access to Humanities Tutor: John Gordon Assessment Title: Critically evaluate Locke's theory of limited government Number of Words 1616 NOTE: The ESSAY should be 1500 words in length. Student signature - Alex Callaghan Date - 24/04/2014 Critically evaluate Locke's theory of limited government The end of law is not to abolish or restrain, but to preserve and enlarge freedom. For in all the states of created beings, capable of laws, where there is no law there is no freedom. John Locke Although John Locke is not the progenitor of social contract theory and is not by any means the last philosopher to wrestle with this concept, his views on fiduciary power, majority consent and limited government have been instrumental in western political thought from the time of the publication of his Two treatises of government to the present day. Report

As requested, I carried out a survey among my schoolmates about their reading interests. My findings are presented below. Girls' reading interests The majority of the girls said that they like to read romantic novels. 28% said that they prefer historical novels and 21% said that they like to read thrillers. A minority said they like to read poetry. Boys' reading interests By far the largest number of boys said that they prefer to read thrillers. A large proportion said that they like to read historical novels. A small number said that they like to read romantic novels and poetry. Conclusion The majority of the girls like to read romantic novels and the majority of the boys like to read thrillers. I therefore suggest that romantic novels and thrillers should be bought. You may also wish to buy some historical novels, since 28% of the girls and 29% of the boys prefer to read historical novels.

Priorities of Estonian History

01.12.14 The Priorities of Estonian Historical Research As a result of multiple nations having ruled over Estonian lands, Estonian history has been written from multiple perspectives. Often, religion, politics, and personal motives have fashioned history into what its authors wanted it to be. People have written from a multiplicity of perspectives. It should be one Estonian historical research's greatest priorities to distance itself from this, to seek after holistic, balanced accounts of the past. Early chronicles of Estonian history illustrate this diversity of perspective. Johann Renner, a Baltic German, held his own people in high esteem, deeming them the people of God. He implied this when he wrote that God would save His people from the hand of Gog. He seems to indicate that Gog was the Muscovite people. Perhaps the Muscovite people truly were

Myers, Kitsuse 2000 Constracting the Future in Planning

Obviously one forecast can't fit all purposes. Rather, planners should view forecasting as a multi- tiered enterprise in which shorter forecasts might be nested within longer-range ones. 22 Myers, Kitsuse 2000 Constracting the Future in Planning Multiple Temporal Processes- The future is often thought of as comprising the end of a single historical time line. Yet there are multiple temporal processes at work, some made up of the sequence of historical conditions, and others of life cycles and other temporal relations that are operating on different time lines. Parallel Historical Trends- Many different trends occupy the same historical time line. Examples include population, housing, and employment growth trends, changing technology, financial markets, and the rise and fall of political regimes. Of course, these parallel trends are not independent and are clearly linked. But forecasts often address only a limited set of the possible

,,Right from the tip",Reet Toot's wonderful historical play It seems like the music never stops in Reet Toot's historical youth play ,,Right from the tip." This musical was devoted to the 90th birthday of Georg Ots' Music school. Reet Toot has described her play as a ,,Musical history" in two surveys. Although everything in this play was really special, the most important thing was that all the actors were young people. Most of them are students in the birthday school. The play ,,Right from the tip" was played at the Estonian Puppet theater in February.

People also make or buy costumes for the festival. Some dress up as simple peasants while others prefer to play merchants, soldiers and knights. During the festival the Old Town of Tartu is divided into three areas, each representing a different historical era. Most of the events take place in Jaani town which takes people back into the hanseatic times. The streets are filled with stalls where artisans are selling their products and there are also many different activities for children and adults. The River town is all about ancient times. As we can see the dependent part of population is comparable to the working part. It means that each working person in Nigeria must provide goods for himself and cover expenditure on one child or aged person additionally. The value of 78.8 % is very high. The King’s Speech

his Palace etc. However the special speech exercises and gradually strengthening friendship with Lionel helped King George VI to get back his confidence and ability to give speeches. His radio- address where he led his country to the war became a turning point. Winston Churchill has been saying earlier in the film that "when Germans will come, we would need a king we can all stand behind". After this radio-address George VI became such a king for his country. I enjoyed this film because I like historical movies where everything studied at school or read from the books becomes real. But this particular story offered more than that. It deeply touched my heart. It was so painful to look King's unsuccessful attempts to make speech in front of the public and how he suffered because of that. I think everyone of us have had those embarrassing moments in our life where would have been liked to sink through the floor. I think the same emotion was very well passed on in this film.

build a larger and more durable church for the use of Estonians. The construction lasted from October 1862 to December 1870, the two towers on the west side were enlarged in 1882. The architect of the project was Otto Pius Hippius from St.Petersburg. Along with the reconstruction of Tallinn’s largest place of worship, the Charles congregation was re-established as well. This time the church was built of hewn limestone blocks, in the historical neo- Roman style, on the basic plan on a Latin cross. The inside of the church is exceptionally large and open, the ceiling being supported by a special arch supporting system and the sides characterized with arched windows. The benches inside can fit a total of 1500 people. When the first service was held there, exactly 200 years after the consecration of the first wooden church, the reconstruction was not completely finished –

recent currency, it is seen in some quarters as prerevolutionary. To see the work as prerevolutionary is different than seeing it as "fully republican" as critics once did. L.D. Ettlinger repudiated that idea in 1967, when he explained that David was neither political nor republican when he painted the Horatii."(Roberts, 1989, p.18) Moreover, in 1978 Thomas crow, an American art historian, published an article which revived the historical dispute about David's intentions with his Horatii. Crow claimed that Horatii was definitely a prerevolutionary painting and that Ettlinger's idea of Horatii being republican is false. (Roberts, 1989, p.19) In 1781 David exhibited his painting Belisarius, which was based on a legend of Belisarius, who was a victorious and noble military general falsely accused of betrayal. (Rosenblum, Woldemar, 1984, p.25) Same misfortune happened to one general in France:

Epic (ingl. k eepos)

EPIC ,,A long narrative poem on a great and serious subject, related in an elevated style, and centered on a heroic or quasi-divine figure on whose actions depends the fate of a tribe, a nation, or the human race. Nonetheless, epics have been written down at least since the works of Virgil, Dante Alighieri, and John Milton. Many probably would not have survived if not written down. The

performance  Investigate what the object does, his interaction with other objects and beings, how it relates to other objects or beings  Performances exist only as actions, interactions and relationships  Restored behaviour or the “twice behaved behaviours”  Key process of performance  All behaviour consist of bits of previously behaved behaviour  Marked, framed, heightened  Something “is” a performance when historical and social context, convention, usage and tradition says it is  Make-believe performances maintain a clearly marked boundary between the world of the performance and everyday reality (children playing, actors on stage)  Make-belief performances intentionally blur or sabotage that boundary (everyday life, public figures)

Book opinion To Kill A Mockingbird

I read the book “To Kill A Mockingbird” written by Harper Lee, published in 1960. The books events take place in 1880’s Alabama. I really liked the book and I understand why it’s important for people- especially young people like high-schoolers to read this book. The book gives good insight on why we still have problems with racism around us and how much worse it was back in the 19th and 20th century. It has a good mixture of educational and historical topics and humour. Although many things are told the reader through metaphors, the meaning of the metaphor is often explained, as the book is told through a kid’s point of view. I would recommend this book to high schoolers, as it explains important topics that are still an issue to this day and it may be an eye- opening book to some people.

The Seaplane Harbour of Tallinn

In 1951 a new pier No 36A was constructed on the former piers No 36 and 37 which were built during the time of hangar construction for the purpose of shielding the water area from north winds. In 1962, Professor Heinrich Laul of the Tallinn Polytechnic Institute published, ,,Reinforced Concrete II", where he discusses Tallinn's seaplane hangars as unique construction objects of great importance, which have been unfortunately overlooked. In 1979, Jevgeni Kaljundi compiled the first comprehensive historical overview of the construction of seaplane hangars. On December 29th, 1989, a small enterprise SEK (the company was liquidated in 1998) was formed with the ESSR Construction Committee, which obtained control over industrial buildings in military use (wood processing) located on Küti street. On December 24th, 1991, SEK allegedly transferred the property (except the piers and hangars) to the joint company B&E.

If I were the misiter on education

School buffet's offer unhealthy chips and pies but very little healthy vegetables and fruits so I would make buffets healthier. Secondly, I believe that it would make classes more effective to watch different educational movies. Doing the same thing from day to day is simply boring and some variety would surely increase students' interest in class. The third thing I would do to spice up life at school is organizing more fieldtrips. There are many different cultural and historical exhibits and museums kids may never visit unless they skip classes to do so. To sum up, I would say that although the Minister of Education could change a lot, our school life today is pretty good.

ABOUT SERIAL KILLERS

However, serial killers before the 1900s are much less publicized. One of the earliest known serial killers was Gilles de Rais, who terrorized his community in the 15th century. The man "raped, mutilated, and murdered an estimated 150 children (though some estimates put that number over 800)" over the course of about 20 years (4). He was executed in 1440 as perhaps one of the world's earliest serial killers. I mentioned Jack the Ripper earlier as perhaps one of the most famous historical serial killers. His exploits in 19th century London were the basis for a surge in public interest into serial killing. In the 1920s there were two films based on stories of serial killing. In the 2000s, more than 300 of the released films were based on serial killers, fictional and historical alike. (5) III. The psychology of serial killers "But she or he was a kind, sympathetic person!" is a common cry after ruling that

fancy hotels and only little cash in their pockets. On the other hand, it might get really hard to get food and shelter but young people like adventures. The second reason, why so many young people travel to other countries is that they want to become an exchange student. This also includes very much travelling and seeing the land. Unfortunately, it might be a sad travel because of missing their family. From a religious and historical point of view, it can be said that travelling can be really helpful if it comes to gaining knowledge about the history of the country where a person is staying at. But a person must know at least something about the country because there might be totally different traditions and you might get into a disgraceful situation. In my opinion, young people should grab every opportunity to travel because it gives you a paggage of knowledge that you can learn only practically.

(after his real family name, Beyle) stressed the importance of the "pursuit of happiness" by combining enthusiasm with rational skepticism, lucidity with willful surrender to lyric emotions. "Beylisme," as he understood it, meant cultivating a private sensibility while developing the art of hiding and protecting it. Charterhouse of Parma is Stendhal's other masterpiece. It fuses elements of Renaissance chronicles, fictional and historical sources, recent historical events (the Napoleonic regime in Italy, the Battle of Waterloo, the Austrian occupation of Milan), and an imaginative, almost dreamlike transposition of contemporary reality into fictional terms. The novel is set mainly in the court of Parma, Italy, in the early 19th century. Fabrice del Dongo, a young aristocrat and ardent admirer of Napoleon, goes to Paris to join the French army and is present at the Battle of Waterloo. He returns thereafter to Parma
