Cold war

Many countries were able to fight against the Communist thanks to the USA's Marshal Plan ( European Recovery Programme- ERP). Because it was such a big of success the USA wanted to start another programme of technical aid to less- developed countries outside Europe. The USSR wanted support from those areas too and started a very similar Molotov Plan. Since then such offers of help have become an important role of the Cold war. The first time the US and the USSR acted as certain enemies was the Berlin Blockade. Post-war Germany was divided into four parts and was occupied by the US , the USSR, Britain and France. Berlin, situated in the Soviet zone, was also divided. In 1948 Stalin enforced a blockade of Berlin and so Germany was divided into the Federal Republic of Germany( West Germany) and the German Democratic Republic (East Germany). The

Improved Windows for Cold Climates

Improved Windows for Cold Climates In this paper the possibilities of improving the energy performance of windows in cold climates are exam-ined. The background for using windows with improved energy performance is the need to reduce the en-ergy consumption in buildings. Since the heat loss through windows often represents half the total heat loss from houses, much energy can be saved by developing and using better windows with respect to energy performance. The main purpose of having windows in houses is that they provide daylight and view, but windows also

Estonian climate in winter-time.

Estonian climate in winter-time. In Estonia, winter climate is very variable. Some year, it could be very cold outside, but some year it could be so warm you may wear your autumn clothes in winter. Some year it could snow so much, that you can't even get out of the house, because there's too much snow in front of your door and some year it may not snow for at least half of the winter-time. But no worries, mostly the temperature may go below -30 and because of the cold, students are absent from schools. The absent students mess up the whole classes program, because then it takes more time to study some subjects and teachers have a lot more work to do. I think, that when students skip school because of the bad weather, teachers should put homework and the work that should have been done in classes, on ekool, but not as concise as it would be if stundents have been at school. Then, students can study subjects on their own and if they can't understand

son, Taha Wi, to find the culprit. Taha Wi took five other wolves with him to search the mountains, but sent half the pack home when the trail they followed led them too far north. Tahi Wi and his two brothers never returned. Taha Aki went to the chief of the Makahs in mourning, and enmity between the tribes ceased. A year later, the disappearances started again. The wolves agreed to help the Makahs, and this time they found a male cold one feeding from a maiden. Only one wolf survived the attack, Yaha Uta, the oldest son of Taha Aki's third wife. The cold one was hard as stone, fast, and deadly, and Yaha Uta lost his two brothers in the fight. He brought the Cold One's corpse back to the village for the elders to see. The corpse tried to reassemble itself, so they set fire to it and separated the ashes into small bags, one of which Billy still possesses. The Cold One's mate came to the village

beginning of the growing season. Warm to hot summers are experienced, depending on latitude. In the winter, grassland temperatures can be as low as -40° C, and in the summer it can be as high 20° C. There are two real seasons: a growing season and a dormant season. The growing season is when there is no frost and plants can grow (which lasts from 100 to 175 days). During the dormant (not growing) season nothing can grow because it's too cold. Taiga- Long, cold winters, and short, mild, wet summers are typical of this region. In the winter, chilly winds from the arctic cause bitterly cold weather in the taiga. The length of day also varies with the seasons in the taiga. Winter days are short, while summer days are long. The average temperature is below freezing for six months out of the year. The winter temperature range is -50 to -1° C The high in summer can be 20° C. The summers are mostly warm, rainy and humid

Other large and important rivers are the St. Lawrence River, the Yukon River, the Columbia River, the Nelson River, the Churchill River and the Fraser River. Nature. Canada's land ranges from fertile agricultural plains in the south to freezing tundra in the north. The southwest of Canada has a mild climate. Cold winters characterize most of the rest of Canada. The magnetic North Pole is within Nunavut. There are five biomes in Canada: the Arctic Biome, the Tundra, the Taiga Biome, the Prairies and the Deciduous Forests. The Arctic biome is cold, windy and the land is permafrost. There are long periods of darkness and light. The growing season is very short. Some typical animals are Arctic foxes, ermines, polar bears, Arctic terns, walruses and seals.

Tundra

Nitrogen is created by biological fixation, and phosphorus is created by precipitation. The most distinctive characteristic of tundra soil is its permafrost, a permanently frozen layer of ground. The average winter temperature is -28°C, but the average summer temperature is 3-16°C. During the brief summers, the top section of the soil may thaw out allowing plants and microorganisms to grow and reproduce. However, these plants and microorganisms become dormant during the cold winter months. Soil is formed slowly. The constant freezing and thawing in the tundra helps to break the rocks into smaller pieces. Permafrost consists mostly of gravel and finer material. The arctic tundra is also a windy place and winds can blow between 48 to 97 kilometres. The tundra is basically like a desert when it comes to precipitation. Only about 150-250 millimetres of precipitation (mostly snow) fall each year. When water

Nights can last for weeks when the sun barely rises during some months in the winter, and the temperature can drop to -70° C. During the summer the sun shines almost 24 hours a day. Summer are usually warm. Average summer temperatures range from 3° to 16°C. TaigaTaiga is the Russian word for forest and is the largest biome in the world. It stretches over Eurasia and North America. The taiga is located near the top of the world, just below the tundra biome. The winters in the taiga are very cold with only snowfall. The summers are warm, rainy, and humid. Some of the animals in the taiga hibernate in the winter, some fly south if they can, while some just cooperate with the environment. GrasslandsGrassland biomes can be found in the middle latitudes. They can have either moist continental climates or dry subtropical climates. There are two different types of grasslands; tall-grass, which are humid and very wet, and short-grass, which are dry, with hotter summers and colder winters

How to avoid colds?

How to avoid colds? Colds and other sicknesses are common occurrences in human life. There are probably more than a million people who are suffering a terrible head cold, a cough and a sore throat right now. These illnesses are not mostly dangerous for people, but if not treated, they may become life-threatening. For example, a simple cold may become a serious disease called otitis, and a simple cough pneumonia. There are a lot precautions to avoid colds, but not everyone pays attention to. The most common way to avoid them, is to dress according to the weather. When it is windy outside, people should wear something windproof, mostly in early spring and late autumn. In winter the dressing should be warm and layerd. Eating healthy food, doing sports and sleeping normally are also very important actions to stay healthy

sweet, sour or simply tasty. Our food may taste good or bad or it may be tasteless. The usual meals in England are breakfast, lunch, tea and dinner or, in simpler houses, breakfast, dinner, tea and supper. For breakfast English people mostly have porridge or cornflakes with milk or cream and sugar, bacon and eggs, marmalade with buttered toast and tea or coffee. For a change they can have a boiled egg, cold ham, or fish. English people generally have lunch about one o'clock. At lunch time in a London restaurant one usually finds a mutton chop, or steak and chips, or cold meat or fish with potatoes and salad, then a pudding or fruit to follow. Afternoon tea can hardly be called a meal. It is a substantial meal only in welltodo families. It is between five and six o'clock. It is rather a sociable sort of thing, as friends often come in then for a

down. That was strange. The heat wasn´t on. When I opened the window to let in some cooling autumn air I saw something slowly falling from the sky. It was too early for the first snow and also the weather was also unusually warm. I opened the window even more to get rid of that suffocating air stuck inside the room but that made it even worse, all the breathable air seemed to fly out. Next, I quickly closed the window and rushed to the bathroom where I was about to take a refreshing cold shower. As I put my head under the cooling water, I realized that something was wrong. The water looked dark gray and seemed to have clogged up the pipes. "What now," I yelled at the sink floated with some gray goo. I didn´t bother to put on more clothes than some old baggy pants and a raincoat when I went outside in the hope of getting some clarification. The moment I stepped outside, I was about to pass out from the heat and exhaustion. I stretched out my palm and caught one "snowflake"

Eastern region of Asia (in special, Chinese and Japan) and North America. Also are finded in tempered areas of South America. Climate: The average temperature in temperate forests is 50° F. Summers are mild, and average about 70° F, while winter temperatures are often well blow freezing. The average yearly precipitation is 30-60 inches. This precipitation falls throughout the year, but in the winter it falls as snow. There are four seasons in this biome, with warm summers and cold winters, often snowy. In autumn, the leaves change color and fall from the trees. The leaves decay on the forest floor, so the soil is very rich. Because of this, and because of the long growing season, many deciduous forests have been cut down for farming purposes. Plants: Trees of this biome include hardwoods such as maple, oak, hickory, and beech. There are often some evergreens, such as hemlock, spruce, and fir growing amongst them. Decidous forests have usually 3-5 layers of plants;

The Queen/Kuninganna essee filmist

interesting. The Queen was about Queen Elizabeth II reaction to the death of Princess Diana. Film was based on actual events and included a lot of tragedy, emotions and sadness. Just as Tony Blair was moving into 10 Downing Street, Princess Diana died in a Paris car wreck. England went into traumatized mourning deeper than anyone could have predicted. On the contrary, the royal family -- Diana's estranged former inlaws -- offered no public reaction at all. As resentment toward the royal cold shoulder built into a monarchical crisis of public opinion, young Mr. Blair intervened with the Queen until finally the House of Windsor made a public demonstration of something like humanity. The film showed me the life of the royal family. There aren't very much positive things about this film, because it showed the downside of the family. I only liked Tony Blair and Prince Charles. They were both very humane and they had a real heart inside instead of a cold brick.

Saudi-arabia deserts

In geography, a desert is a landscape form or region that receives very little precipitation. Generally, deserts are defined as areas that receive an average annual precipitation of less than 250 mm (10 inches). Deserts cover at least one-fourth of the Earth's land surface. Desert biomes can be classified according to several characteristics. There are four major types of deserts: · Hot and dry · Semiarid · Coastal · Cold Location The four major North American deserts of hot and dry deserts are the Chihuahuan, Sonoran, Mojave and Great Basin. Others outside the U.S. include the Southern Asian realm, Neotropical (South and Central America), Ethiopian (Africa) and Australian. The major deserts of semiarid deserts include the sagebrush of Utah, Montana and Great Basin. They also include the Nearctic realm (North America, Newfoundland, Greenland, Russia, Europe and northern Asia).

On friendship

upon us so that we may continue to live; but friendship is not friendship at all unless it teaches us that these are not part of our real life. They have to be; and we pay men, and clothe them in wigs and scarlet, to sit in judgment on other men. So we are tempted to play this game of judgment ourselves, even though no one has paid us to do it. It is only in the warmth of friendship that we see how cold a thing it is to judge and how stupid to take a pleasure in judging; for we recognise this warmth as a positive good, a richness in our natures, while the coldness that sets us judging is a poverty. Just as our criticism of a work of art begins only when we have ceased to experience it, so our criticism of our friends begins only when we have ceased to experience them, when our minds can no longer remain at the height of intimacy

The Broken Rainbow, inglise keele omalooming, vigade parandus

“ I knew that I had to take myself together. I opened my eyes, stood up and took a guy which was laying in front of me. It was very wet because of the heavy rain. I tried to kill the monster that killed my friend but I couldn’t – the gun didn’t work. The monster got angry now and he wanted to kill me. I started to run. I felt how my legs started to get heavier and heavier. I got slower and slower. I was really frightened and I was shaking all over my body. Cold sweat covered my body. I layed on the ground again and closed my eyes. I knew that I will die. When I opened my eyes I saw brightness. I looked around – it was my room, my bed. I ran to the window and I saw a rainbow. The colors were right and beautiful. I touched my face. It was wet. My body was covered in cold sweat. The world wasn’t black and white anymore. It was colorful again! I understood that it was only just a dream.

Traditional Costumes of Estonia

Traditional Costumes of Estonia In Estonia, traditional costumes are worn on special occasions like song festival or weddings. Women's outfit consists of a striped skirt, white blouse and a hat called 'tanu'(coif). Some prides wear a brooch around their neck. It's a feature, which represents fertile age. The stripes and other small details show the origin of the item. Children usually wear just white linen shirt and trouses or a skirt. When it's cold, they put on a black coat. Men wear navy blue breeches and a jacket. Beneath the jacket they wear a white shirt. They also have a black hat and special footwear called 'viisud'.
