Merde Actually

He makes unthinkable efforts and stupidities to prove Alexa that he loves her and that he wants to be with her. He even goes back to England, but discovers that he has become more of a Frenchman than an Englishman and he starts to dislike English manners. "Merde Actually" ends with him going alone to a Christmas holiday in France, since Alexa stands him up, or that is what he thinks. Finally they still meet, because Alexa just runs late, like all the French do. It seems like a happy ending, but actually the trouble just begins, with Paul's bag and passport gone with the train. For me, it was an easy book to read, since it was really fascinating. Stephen Clarke writes in a way that people want to read: the style is close to every-day life speech and he really does understand how things are. In all the chapters there is a hidden message and some of the ideas are really useful for real life usage. I guess the whole message of this book is that

Argumentative essay - time changes things

“They always say time changes things, but you actually have to change them yourself” Some people say that time changes and heals things. There are also people who disagree with that and say that you actually have to change things yourself. It is my opinion that time is irrevelant and you have to change things yourself. At first, you may conclude that time does indeed change things, but is that an accurate conclusion? It’s true that time constantly moves on and we live in a constantly changing environment. But that doesn’t make time responsible for change. For example, if you are depressed and you cry constantly and you don’t make a change, the same problem will be in your face very day.

''How much does life weigh?''

How much does life weigh? The question can be understood differently. Some might take it word by word, others in some metaphorical way. Many are convinced that a human body has an immortal part - a soul. With knowing how few it actually weights, we can only assume what we have in these grams and whether it is anything worth at all. First of all, what do we claim to be a soul? It is our conscience with no form or location. It is the energy that is a part of the whole universe. In consideration of this, every human being has their own soul. This is what makes us all different and unique. Because of this, how can we even question the weight of our lives, when it seems to be completely different for everyone

Essee teemal "I am buying myself an apartment"

I am buying myself an apartment I would like to buy a apartment – I am 25 years old and I have some saving, actually – a lots of savings. I have saved a lot of money to buy my dream apartment in Tallinn. What kind of apartment would I like to buy? The apartment has to be in the downtown, it would be perfect, if it is located in Tallinn’s old town. The apartment should definitely have excellent view to the old town, it should be large and wide. I would love, when the apartment is in old house and if it is renovated, but still has some vintage style. The most important thing is that the

How to deal with water shortage problems?

How to deal with water shortage problems? Water covers more than 70% of the Earth's surface and it is the most valuable resource in the world. We need water to live on this planet otherwise life on Earth wouldn't be possible. Many countries suffer from water shortages. There is no fresh water for people usage. It's actually a major problem in the world but what can we do to decrease this? Firstly, people need to realise that there are many other people in the world who does not have accessibility to water. We can decrease it by not wasting water on pointless things for example long showers and watering flowers outside the house. By doing this we will economize water and it may be possible for other people to use fresh water as well. Secondly, it is really important to keep the water fresh and clean but many factories let their sewage into the groundwater which can cause a pollution and the lack of fresh water a...

Computerised world – a better or a worse place to live in ?

Computerised world – a better or a worse place to live in ? Although computers are said to be one of the most successful inventions there are many people who do not totally agree with that saying. Computers are able to do everything that make our life easier, but why are there still so many different opinions about ones' usefulness? The positive side of having computers in our life is how much it actually changes our life and makes it easier. There are no problems, I mean literally no problems that computers could not do. Computers are used to find information, read news, study, and some even play computer games. But to be exact, computer is not only that small box that stays under our desks or the lap-tops that are well known today. Computers are everything automatic that surround us, for example nowadays there are no cars made without computerised parts

Why I came to study English essay

I had the luck to win some of them. It felt good to be one of the best students in our class. As the school went on and I finally found myself in 9 th grade, just before the exams, and I realised that in the following years after my graduation from elementary school, my mathematic skills had gotten a bit rusty and I was mortified. Our teachers kept saying to us that math is really important in the future and that you have to have the knowledge in mathemathics to actually achieve something in your life. But still, there I was, writing poems and essays, even in my free time, because unlike my skills in maths and other subjects like chemistry and biology, my skills in writing had actually improved and I had also discovered my love of reading in English. I had always loved to read, but many of the books I loved had not been translated into Estonian, so naturally I had to read them in English. At the end of the

Then you again take contract and concentrate on your work on another ship for few month again. However, you have to work and live onboard the ship with the same group of people, no matter whether you like them or not. You really have to learn how to respect others and get along with different people on board. One may wonder whether ship's crew may actually go ashore and tour around the world. Seaman can go ashore when they are off. On some kind of vessels, when the ship is secured alongside for about a week, seaman may go ashore for shopping, dining and having good time. But if it is a container ship, it can be secured alongside the berth for only hours and you may not be able to go ashore at all. Being an officer on board, you are required to work basically 12 hrs a day every day. You will have other work to do according to your rank

Its name is Jannsen and it was named after the Estonian journalist Johann Voldemar Jannsen. I actually have quite many supermarkets around me but I chose this one because I feel like it has more of a story than the others. When you get to the building and have a look at it, you would definitely think that it needs renovation and it is definitely quite old and is from the Soviet times. It is actually really colourful, compared to most supermarkets, therefore it attracts all kinds of children from the area. It has a huge variety of materials in the shop, starting from fruit and

Teenagers

Hi, well my topic of this presentation is teenage girls. I chose this topic because I really like to discuss about the life of a teenage girls and what is it really about? And why only girls? The answer is close to why scientists investigate the big mysterios space. We all want to know the secret of infinite mystery. And why only girls? That part is actually quite easy, Cause every teenage girl edventually will come to that point of her little teenage life where they just get sick of boys. I think girls are pretty much the biggest question to all teenagers and why just to teenagers? Answer to that question you will get while growing up. Well at least I think so. And now some more specifics about teenage girls. There are all kind of teenage girls. Well, for exempel the ones who think

Would less TV and movie violence lead to fewer violent crimes

movies or series people have started worrying that these kind of movies affect people to commit more crimes. Firstly, action films/ TV series always include robberys, explosions, car chases, shooting and all the other more little crimes. Usually these movies/series have about the same plot, where there are good guys and bad guys fighting and chasing each other. Often in the end good guys somehow still capture the criminals and live happily forward. This actually shows that the good guys will always eventually capture the bad guys and criminals have no chance. Still, they may have an affect to an audience. Because of the action it consists it can increase humans aggression and finally lead to violence. Secondly, there are also lots of children who watch violent films and get inspired by it. Because little children may be not so smart they will think that all the stunts and crimes can be done easily in life and they want to try it also

It found that guests are not flattered to buy art. Expensive Two out of five thought that it is nonsense to buy a painting. They thought that they can see some art in National Gallery if they want. Half of guests thought that they might buy some paintings if they had some spare money to spend. Unfortunately 90 per cent of them told that they never had any free money. Collectors So one out of ten guests told that they buy paintings frequently. But most of them were actually collectors and only two guests said that they collected art from young painters. 10 visitors admitted that they bought art just to decorate their home and they actually did not care what kind of painting they were. Proof All in all, researchers were not much surprised by the findings. The survey just showed and confirmed how much our young talented English artists are depending on that financial support coming from The National Art Association.

Arts related entertainment should be free

Arts related entertainment should be free It is quite an arguable question. Should arts related entertainment be free on not? There are some things why it should be free and some reasons why it cannot be free. On the one hand, a lot of people think that art especially art galleries and exhibitions are boring and actually do not know anything about it. They think that it is pointless to pay for something boring, so if art exhibitions would be free, more people would visit them and learn to evaluate art. Also art educates people and enlarges their knowledge. But on the other hand, keeping and taking care of exhibitons have so many expenses like hiring skilled staff or paying electricity bills that it is impossible not to pay for visiting art galleries

How can people reduce the amount of waste?

Trash on the ground it is the worst problem which needs solving. Fortunately, there are many campaigns today, which tidy the9ikmmj ground from the waste. To avoid catastrophes, we really should reduce the amounts of waste. It can be done with recycling and composting. There are many collecting centres, that buy old dangerous devices, because they consist dangerous substances. But all starts from homes. Families should sort their trash. Usually everything goes into a trashbin. Actually it is cheaper to sort, so people should really think about it. Reducing the waste is still not that easy. But a lot can be done to make our planet alive again. Nature need humans, who will make the best solutions to hold our land. This should be an idea for every people, who really want to do something really big, something what matters.

For & against about credit cards.

Using credit cards Credit cards have been very popular for two decades already. There are many ways to pay for your shoppings and not to worry about how much money you really have. First of all, credit cards are an amazing invention because it makes our everyday-lives so much easier. We do not have to carry cash with us, we can pay by a credit card. Carrying cash is actually pretty dangerous because you can get robbed. But when your card gets stolen, you just call to the bank and they close it for any further operations. Second of all, it is comfortable and feels like somebody is taking care of your finantial business. But on the other hand, when you recieve your credit card bill at the end of the month, the reality hits you really hard. You have not thought of how much you spend and eventually you find out that you

Capital Punishment Should Be Abolished

Sometimes the criminals, who get a prison sentence, do something illegal again, after that punishment. Second pro is that it's cheaper for the country to kill the person, than to pay for his/her food and clothes for the rest of his/her life in the prison. Although the killing of the person also needs money, it's still way cheaper than to pay for at least 40 years for all the life needs in prison. The main con of the capital punishment is that if the person actually didn't commit the crime, he or she was punished for, will die as innocent. Nobody can wake him or her up again, after that punishment. Second con is the question of humanity. A lot of countries think that killing the people is inhuman and therefore have abolished the capital punishment. Third con is that the person will just die, not get the actual punishment. Maybe lifetime prisonment would be better for such person, because then he/she will suffer more instead of just dying.

What are the most needed professions in the 21st century?

with computers. In my opinion one of the most needed professions is a doctor. I know we have a lot of doctors, but a lot of them go to a foreign country. Mostly because of the low salary in Estonia. In my opinion the second most needed profession is a really good goverment employee. Estonians want some changes in their lives. Our goverment employees only think about earning more money. The third most needed professions is actually needed the most, it's connected with computers, as I first mentioned. More growing computer using and replacing jobs with robots and computer programmes leave some people without jobs. That's why people need to know more and more about computers. Companies need someone to look after the computers and they also need computer repairmen who know how to fix computers. There are viruses in the computers and hackers who try to brake in the computers and every companies computers need to be protected.

Why are people ingnorig evironmental issues? People are always talking about environmental issues without actually doing anything about it.There are not many people who are devoted to saving the Earth. It seems like people just do not care, but that might be just a small part of the reason. The biggest reason for ignoring environmental issues might be that people tend to focus on immediate problems rather than on problems that are far away in the future and seem unrealistic. If there is no immediate danger or a problem to be fixed, than people just do not consider it to be important.

What are pros and cons of keeping fit?

The most important advantage is that you find an activity that you enjoy doing and that you stick with it. There is a variety of things you can do. You can run, walk, swim, bike, go hiking, do athletics, lots of different methods for keeping fit. It is often suggested to go dancing. Dancing is a very good aerobic activity, requires physical liveliness and burns a lot of calories. One point of view in favour of that you have enough energy to do these activities that you actually enjoy doing to keep your body fit. Therefore, following a healthy diet means ensuring that you eat when you are hungry, you stop eating when you are full, you include plenty of different types of fruits and vegetables, whole grains, things like brown rice, oatmeal millet. Report The aim of this report is to compare Estonian and British students opinion on educational system. We wrote down our opinion on the 6th of september 2012 in our english class. We had 12 students who gave an opinion about the Estonian educational system. Corporal punishment is illegal in British and Estonian schools. 62% of British childrens think that it would be needful but only 31% Estonian childrens have the same opinion. Actually it could be not banned, because if they used controlled corporal punishment it is not likely to be harmful. I would argue that there were actually fewer discipline problems back in the old days when corporal punishment was more common. Most school in England require children to wear school uniform. Estonian children no longer wear uniforms but few decades ago they wore uniforms. 74% British students and 39% Estonian

Choosing the right way to revise guarantees success at the exam

Choosing the right way to revise guarantees success at the exam I Choosing the right way to revise guarantees success at the exam. II For the start, as we know revising for exams can be quite stressful because we have a lot of information to cover. But finding the proper way for you can help you alot! III I actually agree with this statement. In fact, i think that you should find out how you memorize thing in class in order to find out the best way to revise for the exam. For example, if you have a hearing memory, then maybe you should consider recording your notes onto your computer or MP3 player. You should listen to them when you are out and about but not when you are relaxing. Relaxing is a very important part of revising. You should give your brain some rest so it could operate more effectively

Some of them even make fun of teachers and I find this kind of behaviour disturbing, because it is not fair that urchins have more fun in school than decent students have. Yes, teachers can throw the rebels out or punish them in other ways, but that usually agitates the students against the teacher. Firstly, I would like to say that if I were an English teacher I would variegate the classes with subjects, which students would actually find interesting. I would find it exciting to let them think and explore more about politics, social issues, world news and of course other subjects that they really find interesting to speak about. I believe these subjects need also considering because the majority of youth actually has no idea or interest who represents them or how politics work for that matter. I find having a dialogue with students is a good opportunity for creating good relationships between the two parties in question.

There is very little transportation, few radio or television shows and certainly no newspaper circulation. There are towns nearby, but they are small and undeveloped. Actually, there is nothing to develop them into. The house, we're talking about, sits high atop a rocky hill alone, as a ruin. There is much history to this place, but that history is centuries old. Recently has nothing happened here. This huge manor has been vacant for nearly a hundred years. It was cleared of human-kind by a spirit so malevolent no one will step foot inside. It is mostly made of wood. There are no windows left, merely shells.

Perhaps the author tries to raise awareness on how the rapid industrialization and progress in science moves man too far away from what he also conciders importaint his roots and his faith. In the final stanza, the lover is addressed again. The author solemnly (a bit desperately even) makes an oath to always be true to her and expects the same from her. He explains this by stating that a world without faith is actually dark and complicated and says that what seems to be new and interesting and making our lives more comfortable actually pushes us further away from being in touch with our inner selves (faith) and holds none of the pleasures it seems to offer. In a world like that the only comfort he can find is in his lover and therefore does not want to lose her.

Being open to new experiences could lead you to right direction. You just have to find things you're good at. Because it would be dissapointing to work really hard and alwats stay on the same level/ you probably wouldn't get far. Successful people know what they want to achive. They have a clearly defined goal. They are constantly seeking ways to learn and improve. A positive attitude or a constructive and optimistic way of looking at yourself and your work goes hand in hand with succsess. Actually all of us have enourmous potential, but lot of us are too lazy to take advantage of it. We could accomplish MUCH more if we are just willing to work on it. Nowadays is possible to do almost anything and to go almost anywhere. The world in front of us is big and wide and so are the options. The aptitude doesn't play as big role as attitude. You need to be diligent and consistent to achieve anything. The odd thing is, the more further you get and the

Summary of three scientific articles

Antibiotics are one of the greatest success stories of modern medicine – they have transformed our lives. But they may now be endangering lives, too. I chose three articles on the issue that dissert the topic of antibiotics in wastewater. To begin with, for years scientists have been aware of the potential problems of antibiotics being present in wastewater. For now, the research of engineering professor Olya Keen is showing that treatments to clean wastewater may actually be creating new antibiotics and further contributing to the development of antibiotic resistance in the environment. Keen is studying doxycycline, one of the widely used class of antibiotics. Their research to date is showing that chlorine used to treat wastewater is actually changing the makeup of the doxycycline and forming new antibiotics. Subsequently, the question arises: how do all the antibiotics find their way into wastewater?

Lebel and the Jackal

Jackal and prevent him from killing de Gaulle, after many failed attempts, he succeeds. The Jackal was known in the book under many names, such as Alexander Duggan, Per Jensen, Marty Schulberg, Andre Martin and Charles Calthrop. That shows that he was indeed a very clever man, he saw everything coming and thought ahead. He was very assured and he knew, what he was doing, he had it all figured out on his mind. He was, as a human, actually quite nice to some people, but he could not let anyone to interrupt his task, otherwise he killed them. The Jackal had to make many difficult decisions during the hunt, what were a matter of life and death and he always chose the one, which let him live. I think that in his private life he was very handsome and gentlemanlike. He tried not to link his private life and work, but in one case he did and that nearly cost his life.

Books are not absolutely dead things

Books have been our mates many centuries. They give you a lot of knowledge, they make you feel happy, but sometimes also sad too. If you have read any book through, one is certain your life is not the same anymore as it was. So, a question comes to my mind if books are material things, they can not speak, they can not do anything to you, they just lay on the table, then how they can influence your life sometimes so much? They are all written by humans. But the interesting thing actually is, that in his lifetime, human being is the smartest on this planet and can make big things, but this is all transient. Humans die. But if human creates something, for example, a book, then it may live centuries. Books are like the continuation of the book writers life. Human's mind can forget, but if the book is in the bookshelf and your name is on the cover, then it will not disappear anywhere. You may "live" thousands of years. The thing what changes everything, is the content of the book

The Universe according to Douglas Adams

Bistromathics was that space depends on the observer's movement in restaurants. As Adams had specified, it relies on three nonabsolute (meaning that they could be anything) numbers: the number of people for whom the table is reserved, the given time of arrival and the relationship between the cost of the items on the check and the amount that people are prepared to pay for (47, 48). The most satirical idea Adams had come up with was the Somebody Else's Problem (shortened as SEP) field. SEP is actually a quite simple concept: individuals often ignore issues that are of relative or critical importance. Thus, an SEP field could be applied to physical objects to prevent them from being acknowledged. For example, a spaceship could land on a cricket arena and begin to annihilate a throng without any issues, because everyone would just mentally block seeing it happen, since it was not their problem. Altogether, Douglas Adams has managed to portray the Universe as something both simple and

American Literature Character Sketch-The Great Gatsby-Daisy

unforgettable character. To him, Daisy is the embodiment of perfection. Daisy and Jay were in a relationship long, long time ago when they were young and way before Jay left to go to fight in the war. Daisy promised to wait for him, but instead she married Tom who promised her a wealthy and otherwise great life. To Gatsby, Daisy is charming, sophisticated and all other great things but in reality she is a shallow person who is in love with money and materialistic things. The love of Daisy is actually what drove Jay to reinvent himself and acquire extreme wealth through criminal actions. They were careless people, Tom and Daisy — they smashed up things and creatures and then retreated back into their money or their vast carelessness, or whatever it was that kept them together, and let other people clean up the mess they had made. Liisa-Maria Pihlak, 12B It was Nick, her cousin, who saw her for what she really was-a careless woman, who didn’t consider to think twice about her

Character sketch - Sal Paradise, On the Road by Jack Kerouac

This also happens with Terry who is Sal's girlfriend until he abandons her. They are not together because of love, but because they both fear solitude and offer each other companionship. Only towards the end of the book does Sal realise that women may have feelings as well and that is because he meets Laura, the woman he has been always looking for. It is for Laura that Sal finally decides to settle down and not run whenever Dean calls. Sal and other people. Sal is actually a lonely person and he needs to be around others to feel better. Thankfully, making friends is not a problem for him because he gets friendly with almost every hitchhiker or people who he hitches a ride with. From almost every place he visits he gets a new acquaintance who inspires him in one way or another. For example, Sal is intrigued by Rickey, the mañana guy, who feels no guilt at never working and puts off almost everything. Sal likes Rickey's

Philip Larkin poetry analysis

I think that his poems are interesting. They reveal much about Larkin's life and about the social issues in the 20th century. Larkin is also considered to be one of the greatest English poets in the 20th century. I think that Larkin was quite interested in politics. For example his poem ´´Talking in Bed´´ begins with the lines /Talking in bed ought to be easiest, Lying together there goes back so far/. At first it gives the reader an idea that he is talking about two lovers, but actually he is talking about England and USA. He describes the darkness that is creeping up. In my opinion he is talking about USA, which is beginning to creep up on England or on Europe. And because of that England is becoming a less dominant and more isolated place. He is saying that intimacy is dying and that may represent the globalization. Another political poem I really enjoyed is ´´Homage To a Government´´. Larkin says that next year they are going to

Power Destroys Ideals

the pigs, Napoleon, decided that he wanted more power. He made Snowball, who was the leader before him, leave the farm and usurped the power. All of the animals were brainwashed. Napoleon was a good manipulator and made animals do everything he wanted them to. He and some other pigs moved to the farmhouse although it was agreed from the beginning that no animal should go in there. Pigs also slept in the beds and did other things that they were not actually supposed to. Pigs were smarter than other animals, so they secretly changed the seven commandments and tricked the others so that they did not understand what was going on. Napoleon acted like a cruel dictator and changed the life on the farm into chaos. In the real world it is all the same. At first people who want power promise different things that they would do to make the life better and easier. They tell the others about how much effort they will put in their future work and tasks

Kirja näidised

Thank you for your letter! I will try to answer your questions now. I do like films, but I think I am not such a fan like you are. I do not visit the cinema often, because I do not like these commercial films, they show there. I do not watch the TV much either, because I do not have time for that. To tell you the truth, I do not have my favourite film. I like best some `freak films' which are maybe a little weard and most people probably would not like these. I am a little odd myself, so ... . Actually I like some documetary films too. They are realistic and sometimes sad and even depressing, but they show the life the way it is. Actually, for the summer I have no film plans, I will go to one theatre-festival though, but I think that I will have a rest from films and the TV, spend the summer in the country and in the nature. With love, Tiiu Kiri korrektselt liigendatud (käsitletud 3 aspekti) vormistatud, v. a. lõpufraas, kus sõna With on ülearune

My name

when i was a little girl, i didn't like my name at all. I didn't think it's beautiful. Always if someone asked me about it, i didn't want to answer. My name does not have a special meaning, but my mother says that name was cute and an Estonian. Now, when I've grown up, I almost like my name, because I don't know very much peoples who have the same name. For me, it shows a piece of specificity. I can't say that I love my name, but I don't hate it too. During my lifetime I have embraced it and I don't ashamed it. Of course, it could always be better, but all in all, actually I'm happy with my name.
